MQ-1C Gray Eagle

The MQ-1C Gray Eagle is a multi-role armed MALE unmanned aircraft system developed by General Atomics for the U.S. Army. Positioned as a higher-payload and longer-endurance successor within the MQ-1 Predator family, the platform combines reconnaissance, surveillance, target acquisition and precision-strike missions in one operational system.
Gray Eagle’s mission architecture focuses on providing ground forces with real-time imagery and target information. Electro-optical/infrared gimbals, thermal imaging and laser target designation support target acquisition and the employment of guided weapons. Depending on the mission, additional payloads such as SAR, GMTI and signals-intelligence systems can also be integrated.
The platform uses a heavy-fuel engine intended to support the Army’s single-fuel concept and extended missions in field conditions. Data links, the ground control system and a multi-payload architecture allow Gray Eagle to provide reconnaissance support, communications and targeting information to maneuver units.
Gray Eagle can be configured to carry up to four Hellfire-class missiles and support armed reconnaissance and close air support missions. Extended Range variants provide increased mission endurance. According to the Plarok database, the MQ-1C Gray Eagle has a maximum speed of 170 knots, an endurance of 40 hours, a service ceiling of 29,000 feet and a payload capacity of 450 kilograms.
