Kratos XQ-58 Valkyrie
Demonstrator
The Kratos XQ-58A Valkyrie is a low-cost, high-performance unmanned combat aircraft demonstrator developed by Kratos Defense in partnership with the U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory. Created under the LCAAT programme, the platform was designed to explore autonomous and attritable aircraft capable of operating alongside crewed fighter aircraft.
The Valkyrie aims to reduce the risks faced by expensive crewed aircraft during high-threat missions while allowing a larger number of aircraft to be deployed. Manned-unmanned teaming, autonomous mission execution and artificial- intelligence-based decision support make the XQ-58A an important test platform for future Collaborative Combat Aircraft concepts.
The aircraft can launch with rocket assistance without relying on a conventional runway and recover using a parachute and airbag landing system. Its low-observable airframe design, internal weapons bay and wing weapon stations allow it to be adapted for reconnaissance, electronic support, strike and mission-support roles. According to the Plarok database, the XQ-58A has a maximum speed of 568 knots, a range of approximately 5,556 kilometres, an endurance of 10 hours and a service ceiling of 45,000 feet.
