IAI Heron

The IAI Heron is a multi-role MALE unmanned aerial vehicle developed by Israel Aerospace Industries for persistent intelligence, surveillance, target acquisition and reconnaissance missions. The platform can be configured with different sensors and mission payloads to meet the needs of various users, supporting both strategic and tactical operations.
Its multi-sensor architecture supports payloads such as electro-optical/infrared imaging, laser target designation and ranging, SAR and MPR radars. These sensors can generate real-time ISTAR data over land, maritime environments, forests, mountainous terrain and populated areas.
Heron can maintain long-range connectivity with its ground control system through SATCOM, line-of-sight and beyond-line-of-sight communication options. Its ATOL system supports automatic taxi, takeoff and landing, while reliable avionics and mission systems facilitate extended operations.
The platform can support border surveillance, maritime patrol, critical infrastructure protection, persistent area surveillance and stand-off reconnaissance. IAI states that Heron family configurations can remain airborne for up to 45 hours and operate at altitudes above 35,000 feet. According to the Plarok database, this Heron configuration has a maximum speed of 112 knots, an endurance of 45 hours, a service ceiling of 33,000 feet and a payload capacity of 250 kilograms.
