AeroVironment Switchblade 600
Kamikaze
The AeroVironment Switchblade 600 is an extended-range loitering munition designed to give small units a precision- strike capability against targets beyond the line of sight. Heavier and more capable than the Switchblade 300, it is intended primarily for engaging armoured and hardened targets. The system is tube-launched and can be integrated with ground, airborne or maritime platforms.
According to the Plarok dataset, the Switchblade 600 has a maximum speed of 100 knots, a cruise speed of 61 knots and an endurance of approximately 40 minutes. Its engagement range can reach 90 kilometres when supported by long-range data-link and relay capabilities. The compact launch system and control equipment allow it to function as a portable precision-fire asset for tactical units.
Electro-optical and thermal imaging give the operator the ability to assess the target area and control the engagement decision. One of the system’s defining features is the ability to wave off from an attack and recommit later when conditions change. Combined with its integrated anti-armour warhead and precision guidance, this places the Switchblade 600 closer to a direct-effect anti-armour munition than to a conventional reconnaissance UAV.
